Day 1 of 30 Days of Creative
beginning with me
Today, let’s kick off this journey towards cultivating our creativity by focusing on the important first step: believing with our whole hearts that we are already creative.
Deep Dive2 minsThe first step to unlocking your creativity is to know this truth: you are already creative. You have everything in you to begin, as you’ve always had. For some, getting in touch with their creativity brings joy and inspiration. For others, it brings up fear and potentially painful memories of rejection. Whatever your relationship to creativity is, today marks the beginning of a new journey towards rediscovering and celebrating it! Creativity is not just about being good at art — often people think the “creative type” is only someone who can paint, draw, design, write, or make music. It is simply our ability to create something that wasn’t there before, whether it’s a piece of art or a great new idea. We were all creative as children. We gave ourselves the freedom to explore, to create with messy abandon, to see magic in the mundane. Somewhere along the way, we let the world define us and put us in boxes. We let our rigid ideas of what creativity means get in the way of exploration and play. We have so much creative potential in us just waiting to be expressed, in a way that only we can. We’re not limited by the labels the world gives us (or that we give ourselves). Let today be the day you give yourself permission to let go of those labels and commit to cultivating your creative potential.
Affirmation30 secsI am creative because I have the ability to create. I have my own unique set of perspectives, experiences, talents, and skills. Because of this, I contribute something to the world that only I can give. I am creative just as I am, and I know that my creativity takes compassion and commitment to cultivate.
Creative Challenge5 minsAs the first day on this path to being more creative, set an intention or a goal for the next 30 days of your journey. Do you want to spend the next 30 days cultivating a creative habit? Getting back to your creative practice? Learning a new creative skill? Getting out of a creative rut? Grab a sketchbook, notebook, or workbook to document the next 30 days of your journey. On the first page, write down your intention and goal. Keep this book close, it’ll be your home for future creative exercises and explorations. Congrats! You just took the first step towards cultivating your creativity.
