Day 4 of 30 Days of Creative
finding joy in everyday things
Today, let’s see our everyday with new eyes and find the little sparks of inspiration that emerge when we make an effort to look closer.
Deep Dive2 minsInspiration is all around us — we just have to remember to open our eyes and take note. On this path to rediscovering our creativity, it’s also important to recognize our sources of creativity. What are the things that inspire you? When walking out and about, what catches your eye (or your ear, or nose?) Do you perk up because of the smell of a coffee shop, or the beautiful murals on their interior walls? Getting to know the types of things that inspire and spark new ideas in us is a great way to really get to know ourselves and our process. The next time we’re in a creative rut, these sources of inspiration will help bring the spark back. Plus, whether or not these everyday expressions of creativity inspire our next great idea or simply bring a smile to our face in the moment, opening our eyes and being present and aware of the wonders all around us makes life a lot more fulfilling and meaningful.
Affirmation30 secsI am inspired because I find little magical moments in my everyday. I am inspired because I know that there is still so much creative expression in the world that I have yet to encounter. There is an abundance of creative inspiration, joy, and new ideas that are just around the corner when I choose to be present and take note.
Creative Challenge10 minsFor today’s creative challenge, bring your workbook (or sketchbook) around with you today. We’re going to practice being in awe. The dictionary defines being in awe as: “Respect and revere someone or something, experience a feeling of solemn wonder.” As you go about your day, list down things you feel in awe of. Then, for each item, write at least five things that you find amazing or interesting about it. For example, you choose a large colorful mural on a street you pass by each day. List the mural, and list the things you find amazing about it: this must’ve taken a long time to make! How did this go from sketch to reality? How many gallons of paint did they use? The more you practice seeking out things that spark something in you, the easier it’ll be to find them when you need that jolt of inspiration!
