Day 1 of 365 Days of Miracles
π A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Lesson 1
Nothing I see in this room [on this street, from this window, in this place] means anything.
1. Now look slowly around you, and practice applying this idea very specifically to whatever you see:
Β²This table does not mean anything.
Β³This chair does not mean anything.
β΄This hand does not mean anything.
β΅This foot does not mean anything.
βΆThis pen does not mean anything.
2. Then look farther away from your immediate area, and apply the idea to a wider range:
Β²That door does not mean anything.
Β³That body does not mean anything.
β΄That lamp does not mean anything.
β΅That sign does not mean anything.
βΆThat shadow does not mean anything.
3. Notice that these statements are not arranged in any order, and make no allowance for differences in the kinds of things to which they are applied. Β²That is the purpose of the exercise. Β³The statement should merely be applied to anything you see. β΄As you practice the idea for the day, use it totally indiscriminately. β΅Do not attempt to apply it to everything you see, for these exercises should not become ritualistic. βΆOnly be sure that nothing you see is specifically excluded. β·One thing is like another as far as the application of the idea is concerned.
4. Each of the first three lessons should not be done more than twice a day each, preferably morning and evening. Β²Nor should they be attempted for more than a minute or so, unless that entails a sense of hurry. Β³A comfortable sense of leisure is essential.
π TODAY'S INTENTION
Today, let's gently release our assumptions about the meaning of things. By doing so, we open a doorway to fresh perspectives, unburdened by past interpretations.
Life as we know it is shaped by the meanings we attach to everything we see and experience. This practice invites us to temporarily let go of these definitions and embrace a curious, beginnerβs mind. Ready to explore the world free from the weight of preconceived meanings?
π§ REFLECT
- What meanings do I often attach to the objects and surroundings in my daily life?
- How might these meanings be influencing my feelings and reactions?
- What could happen if I let go of the need to define everything?
βπΌ JOURNAL
List five objects around you. Next to each one, write the meaning you normally associate with it (e.g., βchair = comfortβ). Then, ask yourself:
- How might it feel to see this object without this meaning?
- What new thoughts arise when I consider that this meaning is not fixed?
β¨ PRACTICE
For one minute, look around you and apply todayβs idea:
“This [object] does not mean anything.”
Notice any resistance or liberation as you dissolve meanings, one object at a time.
π PRAY
Dear Spirit,
Help me let go of the need to define the world.
Guide me to see through the lens of truth,
free from the weight of past meanings.
May I experience the freedom of pure perception.
π£ AFFIRM
I release the need for meaning and welcome fresh clarity.
π KUDOS
Today, youβve taken a brave step into the unknown! π By loosening your grip on meaning, youβve begun clearing space for miracles to arise.
