CONNECTED – HEALTHY HABITS

Today, practice using the breath as a tool to immediately change your biological state.

A beautiful, well operating, body starts with the mind. And it works the other way around; a pure and clear state of mind is affected by how we treat our body.
This short, powerful exercise will help shift negative emotions into positive ones while also releasing tension in the body. With just a few intentional minutes you will feel more clear, relaxed and connected.

Fusing the mind to the body:

Wherever you are, adjust your body posture to be more structured and intentional, yet stay comfortable.

Now, slow your breath. Take deeper, fuller breathe through your nostrils if possible. Evenly breathing in … and out.

Begin to soften your body. As you breathe in, notice where there is tension. Then release that tension with the out breathe. Take notice of all the interesting sensations. Relax your gut. Soften your face. Feel for another place in your body you can let go of even more.

Fusing the body to the mind:

Now, begin to think of a person, place or event that you associate with feeling happy or appreciative. Think of something that evokes a feeling full of love – perhaps a child, a pet, a favorite vacation spot, or a fond memory.

Breathe into that memory, feeling your attention focused in the area of your heart. Feel a sense of love and gratitude deep within you. Breathe in this positive feeling and let it into your heart and then flow through the rest of your body.

After you have practiced this technique, you will be able to trigger this feeling in your body very quickly, perhaps in just 3 or 4 breaths. Whenever you find yourself dwelling on negative feelings or in an unhealthy state like that of fear, anxiety or stress, remember that you always take a few deep intentional breaths to activate this positive feeling state, and shift into a healthier place of being.
