Today we prove that what you do matters. You are not insignificant, you are a powerful vessel of love and goodwill.

  1. I’m a teacher. I’ve always doubted my importance in the children’s lives. There are other teachers who are much better than me. Recently however one of my students mother had a heart attack. Very unexpected. While she was in the hospital her daughter would come to school without a jacket, lunch or even having breakfast. I fed her, found her a jacket and a hat, brushed her hair. Her mom wrote me a beautiful note about how grateful she was that Toni had a strong woman in her life to care for her when her mom couldn’t. In that moment I realized I do make an impact on my students and their families

  2. It was May 2009, Mother’s Day. I was out to dinner with some family and friends, and there was another family sitting behind us. I noticed someone choking, and the mother saying to her son, are you choking, can you breath? There was no answer, so I continued to listen and the mother asked again for second time are you choking? At that point I turned around and I saw fear and the moms eyes. The child that was choking had his back towards me. I got up, grab the child from underneath the arms, and pull the child from the booth where he was sitting. At that point I proceeded to do the Heimlich maneuver in on my first thrust it did not work, so I tried it again. My second thrust still did not work. I remember reaching down inside myself and asking God with all my might, please God let this one work. I did my third thrust and by the grace of God it dislodged the food from the child’s throat.
I would have to say I affected not only one person, but a family who was out on Mother’s Day showing love and appreciation to their mom. I thank God I was there at that moment in time to be of service to this young man who was choking.
