  1. This may sound silly, but sometimes I think about how important I am to the life of my dog. She’s a true companion to me and I adore her, but she would literally die without me. I give her a home and attention, food and water, sure, but I also give her mental stimulation, lots of exercise and all the love and attention she needs to have a happy and fulfilling life.

  2. I helped a direct report recognize his potential and coached him on how he could be more productive and effective in his role for his sake so he could better position himself for better performance reviews and job opportunities.

  3. I encouraged a coworker who had been working the same job for 17 years to apply for something new and edified their strengths. They did and got the job and have started a whole new career with growth opportunities.

  4. My coworker was let go and he was the sole provider in his family. He talked about their struggle with me sometimes. I asked him how he was doing and if he was going to be okay. He told me that I was the only person that did that and that it gave him a chance to talk.

  5. Becoming a step mom was definitely one of the most impactful moments in my life. It took a lot of responsibility, patience and love but it was all worth it.

  6. As a teacher I know that I directly impacted my students lives. I could tell by the ones that would come to visit me in later years and say hello in the halls.

  7. I contacted my neighbor after her husband passed away. I was so scared. He passed away at their home and I didnโ€™t want to seem snoopy but I knew I had to do something, so I went to her door with all the courage I had and asked if I could help in any way. To sit with her or do anything to help her. Her son was on his way and she wanted time alone but I knew she appreciated me just checking in. I attended his funeral and made a point to bring up her newspaper and make her a meal from time to time.

  8. A communication teacher in college started to pick on a student. I said to the teacher to stop picking on him and he stopped. It was pretty inappropriate When I realized it after several attempts. The classmate looked at me and smiled.

  9. I have not thought of this is more years than I care to think of. Many years ago my good friend owned a store. A young girl was working there and had a disagreement with her boyfriend. She was beside herself. I was already married, and my friend was single. The young girl was upset and watching her I asked if she wanted to take a walk. We went around the block. We talked, or she did, I listened, and was asking how she felt when she made comments. The next day my friend called (we only had phones in the old days) she told she the young girl was thankful and wanted me to know that my talking with her made a great difference in how she thought. I just thought of that.
