Mindfulness includes an awareness of how we affect the world around us. Today we get to open our heart to see the beauty and innocence in everyone.

I try to show I care by listening as best I can when they speak. I do things or say things to show them that I remembered a little detail in our conversation. The truth is that I haven’t had much experience showing people I care. I tend to get consumed in my own thoughts and problems. This is an area where I need grow. I am looking forward to it.
Today was a difficult one for me. A friend of mine was in a motorcycle accident. Thankfully, his only injury is crushed bones in one foot. The thing is – he’s in the hospital where my husband died. I haven’t been back there (or any hospital) for nearly two years. I have a panic attack just driving by that place. Well, tonight I breathed and pushed myself to go visit my friend. I think it helped both of us. He was so happy for the company, and I was able to face and overcome something that was incredibly difficult. Hence today’s lesson – I was willing to reach out to someone else in need and found some healing of my own.
I try to listen deeply, boost their self confidence if they’re feeling insecure, try to pick my words carefully, so I don’t upset anyone. Or it might be just these little things like helping someone clean up, making a cup of tea, preparing breakfast, etc.
Take the time to listen, check in with others, ask if I can help, celebrate others by recognizing their success and also be there in times of need.
