Day 19 of 30 Days of Bravery

Intention
👁 INTENTION

Today, let's crack a smile in the face of adversity so that we can escape the tunnel vision of victimization and shed light on the opportunities concealed within every difficulty.

In the shadow of challenges, a smile can be our lantern, guiding us to unseen possibilities. Let this day be a dance with adversity, where each step, lightened by a smile, reveals the hidden choreography of growth. Imagine adversity not as a blockade but as a secret passage, unlocked by the key of optimism. Today, we wield that key, turning obstacles into opportunities with a smile that says, “I am more than this moment.” Embrace this transformative journey, and let your smile illuminate the treasures buried in trials.

Turn Obstacles into Opportunities with Optimism

Let us embrace optimism as a sacred place,
that invites opportunity with ease and grace.
Let us take responsibility as we listen to our face;
for in every difficulty, an opportunity awaits.

Let our smile be a beacon of our guiding light,
as we follow what feels good into the night.
Let us embrace each moment with a joyful heart,
accepting and loving all as a divine work of art.

Optimistic Quote – Marsha Petrie Sue

“Every day is a new beginning. Treat it that way. Stay away from what might have been and look at what can be.”

– Marsha Petrie Sue, a motivational speaker and author known for her insights on change management, personal responsibility, and leadership. Her work encourages us to view each day as a canvas for potential, reminding us that optimism is a choice that can lead to transformative outcomes.

Science
🧬 SCIENCE

In a study published in the journal Psychological Science, researchers asked participants to hold a pencil in their mouths in one of two ways: either with their lips (which prevents them from smiling) or with their teeth (which activates the muscles used in smiling).

The participants were then shown a series of cartoons and rated how funny they found them. The results showed that participants who held the pencil with their teeth (thereby forcing them to smile) rated the cartoons as funnier than those who held the pencil with their lips (preventing them from smiling).

This study suggests that even forcing oneself to smile can have a positive impact on mood and outlook, and that smiling can influence our perception of the world around us. It may inspire optimism and encourage people to smile more often, even if they don't necessarily feel like it at first.”According to the facial feedback hypothesis, people’s affective responses can be influenced by their own facial expression (e.g., smiling, pouting), even when their expression did not result from their emotional experiences. (Strack, Martin, & Stepper – 1988)”

  1. Take a long breath to calm myself down, tell myself is okay everything will be alright. Look at some motivation quotes to encourage myself and lead myself to look at other perspectives.

  2. I will distract myself to take a pause from feelings of sadness, frustration or despair. I will journal my feelings to see why I’m feeling that way. Then I can think of how to turn it positive.

  3. Today a situation came up where I don’t have much things figured out and a lot of negativity came from sadly family members. So one thing that helped was to find audiobooks on positivity like les brown speeches. I drown out the communal negativity but also my own negativity that creeps up with a start of a button. It’s hard but really has helped so far! Also running outside! Sometimes you just got to get out of your environment for a few minutes. And then Find solutions but with a clear positive Mind. I wouldn’t have solved anything with an exhausted negative attitude, old me definitely would have threw in the towel by now.
