  1. Our foods seem to become more intensive and tastefull while it is actually ourself that is transitioning. Shortcut we become happier since we expand our capability to be conscious. Even if it is just a single moment it has a lasting impact on the rest of our life.

A clear mind is a path to happiness. It is affecting every part of us, our actions and the way we percieve things.

  2. This one is a struggle for me. When I was a teacher I got used to eating fast during my lunches in order to get other work done for the classroom. This extended to every meal and I still eat fast. I am always distracted by reading something if I am eating alone. I need to slow down because it will help with my weight loss for one. I will also be more present to the moment.

  3. I so need to make a point to do this on a more consistent basis. Not just with my meals, but with my life. I need to slow down. I need to focus on the task at hand. Too often I get distracted or I “multi-task” – but by taking the time to actually really be present and focus on whatever it is that I am doing (whether that be eating, writing, researching, job hunting, etc…) allows me to really invest the time, energy and attention into the task/action and JUST that task/action. It causes me to focus, it causes me to really pay attention, and at the end of it I end up feeling really accomplished/grateful/appreciative because I wasn’t distracted or diverted or caught up in this or that… I was present.

  4. I have promised myself to try this approach to eating sometime soon. Until very recently, I used to eat dinner standing up at the counter in my kitchen while watching tv. Now I make myself sit down at my table while eating, but I still watch tv. Soon I will try to sit at the table and eat without watching tv. I’ll turn off the tv and be with my dinner and be mindful about each bite. I imagine it will be worth the discipline it will take to be mindful about eating, but for some reason, I’m not ready to do it just yet. Weird, but true. Bon appetit!

  5. When creating extra padding of time (like we practiced in yesterday’s lesson), I not only appreciate each bite more, which I’m convinced in and of itself is healthier for my body, I also appreciate the pauses in between the bites. Those precious pauses are either filled with quality conversation, taking in the beautiful surrounding, or merely dissecting what makes this meal so damn delicious!
