What the world’s longest-lived people have that many of us don’t are routines to downshift, shed stress, and reflect on the day. They engage in practices that allow them to step back and gain perspective, leading to healthier, happier lives.

💬 QUOTE

“Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.”

— Margaret J. Wheatley, a writer and management consultant who studies organizational behavior and the dynamics of change. Her work emphasizes the importance of reflection in effective leadership and personal development.

SCIENCE
🧬 SCIENCE

Reflection gives us power.

📚 Research shows that understanding ourselves and our motivations helps us overcome modern distractions and refocus.

💡 Without self-awareness from reflection, people can't empathize, exercise self-control, achieve creatively, or experience pride and self-esteem. Clear self-vision boosts confidence, creativity, decision-making, relationships, and communication.

⚖️ Balancing self-awareness involves having reasonable self-standards and optimism.

🔍 Reflective practices are essential for improving as team players and leaders. Instead of asking why, ask what to stay open to new self-discoveries, even if they challenge our beliefs.

HEALTHY HABIT
🧘 HEALTHY HABIT

Take 10 minutes to reflect on your health journey.

We’ve gone through a lot. We owe it to ourselves to take a step back and see how things have changed. Our diligent hard work blossoms when balanced with reflection.

Ask yourself the same heartfelt questions two dear friends would while catching up over coffee. Consider how these reflections can help you tweak and fine-tune your journey for even more healthful days ahead.

Reflection prevents blindness.

Taking time to reflect allows us to see our lives more clearly. Without it, we may miss important insights and continue on a path that doesn’t serve us. Reflect on your day, your week, your health journey, and discover the clarity that comes with mindful observation.

  1. I have not had a drink since 1/28. This program has furthered my goal and intention to be alcohol free. Knowing I need to show up here everyday and reflecting on my journey has been key to my success. Anyone have any suggestions as to which journey I might do next to continue?

  2. Two big surprises – first, that I actually took the sessions to heart and created a new habit based on conscious awareness and deliberate intention to ‘make it so’ with change. I did drift away a bit in the final week of our month, yet remained tuned in to my commitment to complete the 31 days in order. Here I am now.
The second surprise is that sticking to a new path toward improved health has me feel noticeably better in body and mind, so clearly that I’ve invested in a decent exercycle. Now that I can do cardio at home in all seasons, alongside my stretching and strength-training exercises. It’s something I’ve put off for nearly three years. Instead of dreading the new mechanical health buddy in the household, I’m thrilled with it.

  3. I’ve let go (more so) of the negative habits. Even when I stumble, I forgive myself, I am learning to like me for me, and knowing there are times I will hit a home run and other times I may strike out. In the end it is my journey.

  4. My biggest take away from the month so far has been to face the fact that it’s OK (and can even be healthy) to fail. I’ve never acknowledged that before. I’d only been really hard on myself. My goal has shifted from the beginning of the month, my original intention has changed. But, what I’ve realized is that is completely and totally OK. It’s all about recognizing where you are at, not comparing yourself to others, and picking yourself back up and moving on.

    • This is my intention too. I’ve been on vacation for 2+ weeks surrounded by free Mai Tais and I’ve only craved alcohol twice, but now I’ve craving Shave Ice (combo of ice, syrup and ice cream)! Luckily there will be no way to get that at home.

  5. I have been surprised to find that what I need to better my health is very much the opposite of what I’ve been doing. Not forcing things to happen, for example, and instead, stepping back and having the patience to trust that perhaps a slower, more gental approach is the more conducive to balancing myself out.

  6. Learning about Ayurveda and my Dosha has been a big take-away for me. I first heard about it here, then added a healthy aging workshop and the subject of Dosha types came up again. I was surprised how well it defined me and how I naturally lead towards the foods and activites recommended for my type.

    • I did the mini, free aging series with Deeprak Chopra before this journey and was surprised that both surveys came out the same. It’s helped me avoid pitfalls (chips!) and since I’ve started using almond oil in my nostrils (ewww) my sinuses have ceased being dry and I don’t need to use it every night.
