Ready to embrace the power of rest and unlock your peaceful self?

🌎 BLUE ZONE INSPIRATION

Yes, even people in the Blue Zones experience stress. It's how they routinely shed the stress that makes them different. Stress leads to chronic inflammation, associated with every major age-related disease. What these longest-lived people have that we don’t are routines to shed that stress. Okinawans take a few moments each day to remember their ancestors, Adventists pray, Ikarians take a nap, and Sardinians do happy hour.

“Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”

– Eleanor Brownn, a self-care advocate and author known for her inspirational messages on the importance of rest and self-care in maintaining a balanced and fulfilling life.

Having a self-care practice ingrained into our daily lifestyle is essential to overall health and well-being. A study by The British Journal of General Practice found that “self-care affects health outcomes through several pathways:

  • maintenance of good physical health through lifestyle choices (for example, diet, not smoking);
  • monitoring symptoms to inform treatment/self-care decisions;
  • monitoring and managing stress and/or emotional consequences of illness;
  • adherence to treatment regimes;
  • interacting effectively with health professionals to ensure that patients' needs are expressed and addressed; and
  • using social support networks to help to achieve the above.”

Today, let's incorporate a 10-minute self-care ritual into our daily routine, such as meditation, deep breathing, or a short walk.

Healthy Habit
🧘 HEALTHY HABIT

Let's explore at how rest can be incorporated into our daily lifestyle. Could it be that the reason we get over-stressed and depressed is that we have gone too long without deep rest?

‘Depressed’ … ‘deep rest’. Is that homophone just a coincidence?

What Self-Care Really Looks Like: Self-care doesn't have to be elaborate. It can be as simple as setting aside a few minutes each day for quiet reflection, a nap, or a short walk.

Self-care is unlearning and remembering who we are at our core.

Self-care is creating a safe space where you can get real with yourself. A space filled with grace for what is good and true. It naturally provides a margin for leisure, rest, and recovery.

How can you prioritize checking in with yourself and your needs?

What does your body need right now?

How can you reorganize your environment to inspire you to get real with yourself and listen to what you truly need?

Here are some daily practices you can explore incorporating:

  • 🌅 Morning Magic: Begin your day with a sprinkle of mindfulness meditation.
  • 🛏️ Nap Attack: Sneak in a power nap to recharge your batteries.
  • 🌳 Nature Hug: Take a stroll outside and soak up some tree-hugging vibes.
  • 📖 Book Nook: Escape into a cozy corner with your favorite book.
  • 🕯️ Zen Den: Create a peaceful sanctuary at home for pure relaxation.
  • 🎨 Creative Bliss: Dive into a hobby that makes your heart sing.
  • 💧 Hydration Celebration: Sip on water all day to keep the refreshment flowing.
  • 🧘 Yoga Flow: Stretch and pose your way to inner peace.
  • 💤 Dreamy Routine: Set up a bedtime ritual for the sweetest dreams.
  • 🌸 Breath of Fresh Air: Practice deep breathing to calm your spirit.
  • 🎧 Melody Escape: Drift away with soothing tunes.
  • 💆 Self-Spa: Treat yourself to a gentle self-massage to melt away tension.
  • Tea Time Treat: Enjoy a moment with a warm cup of herbal goodness.
  • 🛁 Bubble Bliss: Soak in a luxurious bath with heavenly scents.
  • 🖼️ Golden Memories: Spend a few minutes reflecting on cherished moments.

  1. One of my favorite ways to rest and reconnect with myself is through Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep. 🌙✨ This practice is incredibly powerful for achieving deep, restorative rest. Imagine lying down in a comfortable position, closing your eyes, and being guided through a systematic relaxation of your body and mind. Unlike regular sleep, Yoga Nidra takes you to a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, where your body and mind can experience profound rest and rejuvenation. The practice I do, created by Rod Striker, is only 22 mins and I often feel completely revitalized afterward as if I just woke from a 2 hour nap!

  2. Hello,
    I hope everyone is having a beautiful day. Things I can do to make my heart feel at peace is my daily morning meditation. I live in he beautiful mountains of S. Cal and in the mornings the squirrles and woodpeckers are out and its so quiet and peaceful. I love to sit out there and drink my coffee, talk to God and think about my day ahead.
    On the other hand the one habit I can do a day to experience peace is a daily moral inventory. I am a recovering alcoholic and at the end of the day we do spot checks. To see if we did any harm to anyone or were hurtful selfish self seeking etc, If we find we are any of those things we make an amends right away. That way our heart and our minds stay free and clear of quilt, anger, or any type of dicord. We are at peace with all and we can go on the following day kow its going to pepeadfull.
