Join Matt in the blooming Blue Zone town of Nosara, Costa Rica as we explore the importance of how our social connections have a profound impact on our overall well-being.

π TODAY'S INTENTION
Today, let's explore the power of our social circles and how they shape our health and happiness.
Your pack matters. Whether itβs family, friends, or colleagues, the people we surround ourselves with influence our habits, thoughts, and overall well-being. Aligning ourselves with positive, uplifting individuals can inspire us to grow and thrive. The right company can push us towards our goals, while toxic influences can drag us down.
We are deeply influenced by those we interact with daily. Positive, supportive social circles can inspire growth, while negative influences can hinder our progress.

π BLUE ZONE INSPIRATION
In Blue Zones, areas with the world's longest-living people, social networks play a crucial role in longevity. For instance, Okinawans have “moais,” lifelong groups of five friends who support each other. This social structure promotes healthy behaviors and provides emotional support.
Moai: A group of friends, neighbors, or others who get together regularly to provide reciprocal supportβsocial, emotional, and financial.

This “moai” circle remains unbroken for 102-year-old Kamada Nakazato, whose family and friends join her for a cup of tea several times a week. Studies suggest that seniors who stay social are less prone to heart disease and depression.

π¬ QUOTE
“We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.”
β Jim Rohn, an influential motivational speaker and entrepreneur who inspired countless people to achieve personal and professional growth through his seminars and writings.

𧬠SCIENCE
A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research found that friends bond more when providing moral support to resist temptations. Interestingly, friends also conspire to indulge together. This dynamic highlights how social interactions can both hinder and help our self-control and well-being. The study suggests leveraging our social connections for accountability while also enjoying shared indulgences in moderation.
Research from the Framingham Heart Study shows that happiness, obesity, smoking, and even loneliness are contagious within social networks. The health of individuals in these zones is profoundly shaped by their supportive social circles.

π§ HEALTHY HABIT
Today, let's strengthen our social circles by connecting with someone who can support our sense of purpose and health goals.
Step 1: Reflect on Your Goals
- Recall your Ikigai (deepest sense of purpose) you explored on Day 1 and the SMART health goal you set on Day 2.
Step 2: Identify a Supportive Person
- Think of someone in your social circle who inspires you or shares similar goals. This could be a mentor, a health-conscious friend, or a family member who encourages you.
Step 3: Craft a Thoughtful Message
- Reach out with a message that connects your shared interests and goals. For example: “Hi [Name], I've been focusing on my health goals and sense of purpose lately, and I know you value these things too. I'd love to catch up and hear how you're progressing with your goals!”
Step 4: Suggest a Goal-Aligned Activity
- Propose an activity that aligns with both your health and purpose. For example:
- “Would you like to join me for a morning jog this weekend and chat about our progress?”
- “How about we try out a new healthy recipe together and share our experiences?”
- “Let's set up a time to discuss our goals and support each other in staying motivated.”
Connecting with someone who shares or supports your goals reinforces your commitment and creates a mutual support system. Sharing experiences and insights can provide motivation and new perspectives.
Notice how this intentional connection strengthens your social circle and helps you stay motivated on your journey.

When I bring to mind the people who i spend the most time with in my wolf pack I become grateful because my wolf pack are woman who love me and only want what is best for me. They always make me strive to be the best I can be, and make me accountable for my wrongs, and taught me to depend on God because humans will fail me.
They have influenced me to see how simple it is just to be honest, to be kind no matter what, to always wear underware and to have fun in everything I do.
I am extremely lucky to have a wonderful, supportive family and an awesome best friend who I have known for over 35 years. These people show me how to enjoy life and are always there for me, even when I try to isolate myself when struggling with anxiety and depression. The theme for today makes me realize how truly blessed I am and how I need to show more gratitude for my “pack”. Thank you for this lesson.
I have lost my wold pack due to busy lives. I need to reconnect with them but in more positive ways. Ie going for walks instead of drinking and eating.
Full, brutal honesty, openness and acceptance, towards others and myself π
The current “wolf pack” that I am connecting with the most – is those in my MBA program. What I love about this particular group is that we are currently going through the same struggles, balancing work/life with the demands of our program. We listen to one another, we care about one another and we are there for one another. One of the ways they have most profoundly influenced me is there constant belief in me. I remember a few days a go, one of them said to me “I wish you could see yourself, the way that I see you.” That belief and that support – is somewhat hard to put into words, but it has made all the difference this past quarter.
My wolf pack has gotten dramatically smaller over the past year, intentionally so. I was exactly like all the people in my pack and when I started to wake up, I started to lose them because I was aware enough to choose that I didn’t want to operate from there anymore. A couple have stayed as they are also on a path of healing and I am slowly starting to gain more friendships that line up with where I’m headed
