As we journey through the tangled woods of our creativity, let us embrace the essence of nurturing our inner artist child. This tender being within us, so full of potential and dreams, often finds itself shadowed by doubts and fears, much like a delicate seedling under the harsh sun. Today, we water and shield this sprout with understanding and kindness.

Today's Key Takeaways:

  • Acknowledge and gently confront the enemies of your creative self-worth.
  • Embrace the process of healing old wounds to foster creativity.
  • Give yourself permission to be a beginner, to be imperfect.

“Make your own recovery the first priority in your life.”

– Robin Norwood, known for her work in understanding the patterns of self-destructive relationships, reminds us here of the paramount importance of self-recovery.

Protecting the Artist Child Within

The artist child must begin by crawling. Baby steps will follow, and there will be falls.

In recovering from our creative blocks, it is necessary to go gently and slowly. What we are after here is the healing of old woundsβ€”not the creation of new ones. No high jumping please! Mistakes are necessary! Stumbles are normal. These are baby steps. Progress, not perfection, is what we should be asking of ourselves.

Remember that in order to recover as an artist, you must be willing to be a bad artist. Give yourself permission to be a beginner. By being willing to be a bad artist, you have a chance to be an artist, and perhaps, over time, a very good one.

Time Travel: Monster Hall of Fame

List three old enemies of your creative self-worth. Be as specific as possible in doing this exercise.

Your historic monsters are the building blocks of your core negative beliefs. Acknowledge creative injuries and grieve them. Otherwise, they become creative scar tissue and block your growth.

  1. I am ready to let go of the lies and ongoing reinforcing behaviors about a victim mindset. I am choosing to be responsible for my creative life. I have been given the Creator’s grace to create, be powerful and be fulfilled.
